Kamala Harris
Kamala Devi Harris was born on the 20th of October, 1964. She is an American politician. She is the first female vice-president and the highest-ranking female politician in U.S history. Harris is a member of the Democratic Party and was previously the attorney general of California between 2011 and 2017. In addition she served as a United States senator representing California between 2017-2021. Harris was born in Oakland and attended Howard University, University of California, Hastings College of the Law. Her professional career started with the Alameda County District Attorney's Office. Harris was later recruited to join the San Francisco District Attorney's Office. In 2003, she was the San Francisco district attorney. Harris was elected Attorney General of California in 2010, and reelected in 2014. Harris was the United States junior senator from California from 2017 until 2021. Harris beat Loretta Sanchez in the 2016 Senate election to become the 2nd African American woman and the first South Asian American to serve in the United States Senate. As a senator, Harris advocated for federal de-scheduling of healthcare, and the legalization of cannabis as a pathway to citizenship of undocumented immigrants, as well as the DREAM Act which bans assault weapons. Her pointed questioning of Trump officials in Senate hearings has earned her national attention, which included the second Supreme Court nominee, Brett Kavanaugh, who was charged with sexual assault.
